Elton John – Tiny Dancer (1971)

In ambito pop non avrei dubbi: l’Elton John degli anni 1970-1976 è stato una macchina da guerra. Melodie bellissime e un output discografico stupefacente per quantità (anche due dischi l’anno!) e qualità. Da non trascurare il contributo del fido paroliere Bernie Taupin, ma in questa carrellata di 33 giri meravigliosi c’è un disco in particolare che forse costituisce la vetta dell’Elton di quegli anni: sto parlando di Madman Across the Water, dove troneggia una terza figura determinante, oltre a John e Taupin.
Questa terza figura si chiama Paul Buckmaster (purtroppo scomparso pochi mesi fa), un maestro degli arrangiamenti che crea tappeti d’archi bellissimi e per nulla scontati, riempiendo con gusto le canzoni e giocando “al gatto e al topo” col pianoforte di Elton.
Uno dei capolavori del disco è la celebre Tiny Dancer, brano dedicato alla prima moglie di Bernie Taupin, che è stato successivamente molto sfruttato a livello cinematografico: oltre a comparire nelle serie Friends e Scrubs lo ritroviamo nel film Quasi Famosi (2000) e nel film Aloha, Bobby And Rose (1975).
